New Tuolumne County Courthouse opens Monday

The new $70 million courthouse, located just outside the Sonora city limits, provides services that were precluded by space restrictions at the previous locations, according to the court’s website. New amenities include larger jury assembly and deliberation rooms, a self-help center, attorney and witness waiting rooms, family court mediation, and in-custody holding areas.

The Tuolumne County Superior Court opened a new, $70 million courthouse Monday, combining operations from two previous locations in downtown Sonora.

"We are working with our justice partners to make the new courthouse a success," Tuolumne County Public Defender Scott Gross said in a statement on Friday. "During a recent tour we all marveled at all the new innovations it offers."
