Inmate COVID claims moot though judge blasts prison department

“The vaccine changed the game for COVID-19 at San Quentin. Although COVID-19 remains a risk with San Quentin, the date regarding infections and science regarding the efficacy of the vaccine makes it no more a risk at present than the risk faced by the community at large,” wrote Marin County Superior Court Judge Geoffrey M. Howard.

"Too little, too late" was how a San Francisco public defender's office attorney described a Marin County judge's findings that San Quentin and the state prisons department acted with deliberate indifference in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent outbreak last summer that led to the deaths of 28 inmates and one correctional officer.
