SAN RAFAEL - As he rose to the top of the ranks at a national law firm and built a name for himself in the world of high stakes intellectual property litigation, Geoffrey M. Howard always knew there would be what he calls "a chapter two" in his career.

Last year, he made that goal a reality when he was sworn in as Marin County's newest superior court judge.
