State Bar hears opinions on DA campaign donations

The Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct was asked to consider what the Legislature has discussed regarding a possible conflict of interest when prosecutors receive campaign donations from law enforcement associations.

A State Bar committee looking into restricting law enforcement campaign contributions to prosecutors was addressed Friday by more than 20 attorneys, activists, police and sheriff’s deputies.

Another option discussed was preventing district attorneys and the attorney general from investigating or trying any law enforcement officer whose union donated to a prosecutor’s campaign.
