California inmates can’t ‘choose to live with COVID’

Just this past week, jails throughout California have literally been shut down because of outbreaks of Omicron. When jails shut down, so does the criminal justice system.

California's jails and prisons are overcrowded and, without question, have been a breeding ground for COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Outbreaks are impossible to contain and often lead to community spread because so many people work in jails and prisons.

Just this past week, jails throughout California have literally been shut down because of outbreaks of Omicron. When jails shut down, so does the criminal justice system.
