DA pushes back against police threats to end investigation deal

At the root of the dispute between the SFPD and the SF District Attorney is the prosecution of Officer Terrance Stangel, who is accused of beating a domestic violence suspect on Fisherman’s Wharf in 2019.

A rupture between San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin and the police department over an officer being prosecuted for alleged abuse could end a first-of-its-kind agreement that allowed the DA to independently investigate police shootings, in-custody deaths and use of force resulting in serious bodily injury.
