Newsom reports high number of minority, women judge appointees

According to annual data his office released Tuesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom has named judges from these groups at about a level twice their current representation on the bench.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed Asian, Black, Latino and LGBT judges at a high rate during his three years in office. According to annual data his office released Tuesday, he has named judges from these groups at about a level twice their current representation on the bench. The figures also show he has appointed nonwhite, female and LGBT judges at a slightly higher rate than Gov. Jerry Brown.
