Cultural Divorce, Part V: Date of marriage

For a California attorney, FL-100 provides basic information about parties, their legal relationship, the reasons for the termination of the relationship, and the reliefs sought. But for the cultural client, any marking, or un-marking of any box is a threat for which the Form is only a representative.

California Family Code, Section 300 defines marriage as a civil contract regarding “personal relations.” Family Code Section 720 explains that a “personal relations” contract requires mutual respect, fidelity, and support. Accordingly, a Petition for Dissolution in California is for the cancellation of a personal relationship contract between two individuals.
