Appeals court refuses to bless delta water contract

Environmentalists and fisher groups challenged the contract, which they called “a sweetheart deal” that would privatize much of the Central Valley’s water supply.

A panel of the 5th District Court of Appeal upheld a Fresno County judge’s refusal to approve a proposed contract between Westlands Water District and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for the purchase of 1.15 million acre feet of water per year, in perpetuity, from the Central Valley Project, the nation’s largest irrigation project.
