Judge tosses libel suit against LA Times by celebrity attorney

Judge Wendy Chang granted the newspaper’s motion to strike in its entirety under the anti-SLAPP statute, finding that the reporters never accused Mark Geragos of misappropriation or theft and that nothing in their reporting was actionably false for his libel claim.

Los Angeles attorney Mark J. Geragos said Wednesday he would appeal the dismissal of his defamation lawsuit against the Los Angeles Times over articles about his handling of a multimillion-dollar insurance settlement for Armenian Genocide victims in the mid 2000s.

“We always expected that either way this case would be decided in the Court of Appeal,” the Geragos & Geragos principal attorney said in an email.
