ABA wants law schools to adopt free speech rules

Yisrael Gelb of Gelb Law APC in Beverly Hills said in response: “There are existing laws in place to protect speakers who are at risk. Let’s start enforcing those before enacting more.”

The American Bar Association is pushing for a new standard that urges law schools to develop more extensive guidelines regarding free speech and academic freedom, in particular.

But in light of recent cases of professors, students and guests being disrupted or otherwise blocked from speaking, lack of enforcement of laws, rights and policies that already exist is the bigger issue, some California attorneys commented Thursday.
