Bar board mulls new non-exam licensure proposal
If the proposal for licensure following 700 to 1,000 hours of supervised law practice is submitted and rejected by the state Supreme Court, then the idea won't be "advancing this time," State Bar Executive Director Leah Wilson said.

A group tasked by State Bar board leaders to explore ways to become a California lawyer without taking the bar exam presented Friday a draft report suggesting 700 to 1,000 hours of supervised legal practice would be equivalent to the test.
If the proposal is submitted to the state Supreme Court and rejected, then it won't advance "this time," State Bar Executive Director Leah Wilson told the meeting. The proposal is to be issued for public comment by Sept. 11.
