RIVERSIDE -- A precedent for trial of fentanyl-related killings was set Thursday as a jury unanimously found a Temecula man guilty of second-degree murder for giving a woman a pill laced with the drug.
It is the first fentanyl-related homicide case to go to trial in California. The Riverside County prosecutors persuaded the jurors that the defendant had "implied malice," because he knew the deadly effects of the drug beforehand and knew what he was giving her.
