CJP admonishes retired Orange County judge for incivility

“From his many decades of experience as a judge presiding over complex matters, it was his belief that understanding how and why a judge thinks was helpful to both litigants and counsel,” stated Paul S. Meyer, who represented former judge Derek Hunt.

Derek Hunt, who retired from the Orange County Superior Court in June, was admonished by the Commission on Judicial Performance, which said he engaged in uncivil behavior while on the bench.

It was the second time the agency had admonished Hunt, this time expressing disapproval of a series of inappropriate remarks,including when he told a plaintiff that he should “litigate like an adult.”
