Kanye West claims leak of unreleased songs violated state trade secrets law

“Ye’s musical composition, with its distinctive arrangement and unique elements, constitutes a trade secret due to its economic value, secrecy, and the efforts taken to safeguard it,” attorney Gregory K. Nelson wrote in the complaint.

Kanye West sued the owners of social media accounts in state court, claiming that they leaked his unreleased music.

The complaint, filed by attorneys at the patent litigation boutique Weeks Nelson, claims misappropriation of trade secrets and breach of contract. But instead of suing in federal court under the copyright act, they filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
