Parties argue significance of US judge’s bail ruling

“The Sheriff and the Attorney General are now prohibited from enforcing the bail schedule or any variation thereof,” Equal Justice Under Law Executive Director Phil Telfeyan said.

Cash bail opponents touted a “monumental victory” this week, while an industry spokesman accused them of “spiking the football” over “old news.”

U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley’s ruling follows several similar orders around the state. It will require Sacramento County to allow defendants to argue for lower bail on multiple grounds.
