US judge tosses challenge to ‘mansion tax,’ state case remains
“In this case it’s killed the real estate market. Lenders are not lending here. Investors not investing in multiunit housing. We wanted the opportunity to prove it’s to the detriment of the public,” said plaintiff’s attorney Keith M. Fromm.




A federal judge has dismissed a legal challenge to a new property transfer tax in Los Angeles, finding that U.S. District Court is not the right venue under the Tax Injunction Act.
The ruling relegates efforts to overturn Measure ULA, the so-called “mansion tax,” to the state trial court, where the same plaintiffs are attempting to challenge the law passed by voters last year.
