Judge charged with wife’s murder can’t work, draws salary

Orange County Presiding Judge Maria D. took away Judge Jeffrey Ferguson’s calendar after his arrest and requested that his murder case be heard by a Los Angeles County judge.

The California Constitution says that a judge is disqualified from acting as a judge without loss of salary when charged with a felony under state or federal law. This means that Orange County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ferguson, who is charged with first degree murder in the shooting of his wife, is drawing a salary even though he isn't presiding over any cases.
