Reform of State Bar off to promising start, senator says

“I think the State Bar is well aware of its need to add transparency and accountability, and I think that they’ve actually taken steps in that direction,” state Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Tom Umberg said after passage of the annual bar bill.

The State Bar is moving ahead on transparency and accountability and the bar bill passed by the Legislature will support those efforts, predicted state Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Tom Umberg.

“This bill will be helpful to ensure California’s consumers are protected from lawyers who are engaged in misconduct,” Umberg, D-Santa Ana, said in a phone interview during the Legislature’s marathon bill passing session Thursday evening.
