US Supreme Court shows no appetite for deleting CFPB
Supreme Court justices — including swing votes such as Justices Brett M. Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, both appointed by President Donald Trump — sounded skeptical of the arguments by the lenders’ attorney, Noel J. Francisco.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau appears likely to survive, as oral arguments Tuesday at the U.S. Supreme Court did not appear to go well for the attorney representing payday lenders.
The case is one of several attacks on federal administrative agencies, and the latest against the CFPB, with a 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel finding the agency unconstitutional for violating the appropriations clause.
