Autopilot was on, but driver's input is unknown, expert says in Tesla crash trial
An expert in the nation’s first wrongful death trial involving Tesla’s Autopilot said the data was not enough to conclude whether or not the driver was in control of the steering wheel when the car made the fatal 43-degree right turn, which is the main question of the lawsuit.





RIVERSIDE — In the nation’s first civil trial on whether an Autopilot design defect in a Tesla caused a fatal crash, a specialist who analyzes car collision evidence testified Tuesday that data he obtained from the plaintiffs’ vehicle was enough to show its Autopilot feature was in use moments before impact, but not whether the driver was also controlling the steering wheel.
