Current and former LA councilmen sue over secret recording
Kevin de Leon and Gil Cedillo say in their lawsuits that the comments heard in the recordings were taken out of context or “improperly interpreted from Spanish slang by those who did not have a full understanding of the meaning of the terms.”





Los Angeles City Council member Kevin de Leon and former councilmember Gil Cedillo separately sued former AFL-CIO employees over a surreptitious recording in which councilmembers are heard using racist language at the federation’s headquarters.
California is a two-party consent state and De Leon and Cedillo maintain they did not give their permission to be recorded.
