Minors’ social media addiction claims to proceed to trial in Los Angeles

Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube are accused of intentionally including features designed to get minors addicted to using their platforms.

Meta Platforms Inc., TikTok Inc., and other social media platforms cannot escape a consolidated lawsuit accusing them of negatively impacting adolescents’ mental health as a Los Angeles judge ruled that the plaintiffs sufficiently alleged their claims.

Friday’s ruling is the first in the country to allow social media addiction claims to proceed against technology companies and the first to reject a First Amendment protection defense again...
