Selena Gomez’s lawyers obtain multiple defaults to settle suit over likeness

The process of litigating the case without discovery from the foreign defendants presented “a unique procedural challenge,” Alex M. Weingarten of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP said. “But we were able to overcome all of that and ultimately prevail and get a great settlement.”

Actress and singer Selena Gomez settled her lawsuit against the maker of a mobile phone game for using her likeness without her permission on Tuesday ahead of a trial date set for Oct. 30.

“I can confirm every defendant, including the defaulted defendants, are a party to a final executed settlement agreement,” defense counsel Kenneth A. Linzer told Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Elaine Lu at a final status conference.
