Human steering caused deadly crash, Tesla expert says

Following three consecutive days of defense evidence from the three-week jury trial arguing human error, rather than mechanical, caused a man to steer off the freeway, Tesla’s counsel, led by Michael R. Carey of Dykema Gossett PLLC, rested their case Thursday.

RIVERSIDE — The final expert witness for Tesla in the nation’s first fatal Autopilot crash trial said Thursday that despite many driving tests, he was unable to get Tesla’s auto steering system to exceed the angle and rate limitations the plaintiffs’ claim, concluding the only way for the crash to have happened was human input.
