Judge dismisses most artists’ copyright claims against AI software

The plaintiffs, who are represented by the Joseph Saveri Law Firm LLP and sole practitioner Matthew Butterick in Los Angeles, accused the defendants of creating or using an AI program that was trained using their artwork in order to mimic their styles.

Artists who sued Stability AI Ltd., Midjourney Inc., DeviantArt Inc. and Getty Images (US) Inc. claiming infringement of their works suffered a setback Monday when a federal judge dismissed all their claims against the defendants except for their claim for direct copyright infringement against Stability AI.
