53 groups oppose plan for internships in lieu of bar exam

It could “open the floodgates to substandard education and unqualified legal practitioners to the detriment of needy clients,” said the letter opposing the proposal the bar board will consider on Nov. 16.

Dozens of organizations signed a Los Angeles County Bar Association letter opposing a proposal to allow bar applicants to skip the exam in favor of supervised internship work that is assessed by independent graders appointed by the State Bar.
