A federal judge in Oakland certified three classes of NCAA athletes who are seeking damages from the organization for depriving them of the commercial use of their name, image and likeness.

The Friday decision by Senior U.S. District Judge Claudia A. Wilken, an appointee of President Bill Clinton, follows a Sept. 22 decision granting class certification in a lawsuit seeking injunctive relief.
