Senate confirms US Judge Kenly Kiya Kato in Riverside

The former magistrate judge is not the only nominee of President Joe Biden who has run into unanimous Republican opposition, but she has waited the longest of his California district court nominees.

After more than a year and a half in limbo, U.S. Magistrate Judge Kenly Kiya Kato of Riverside was confirmed to a judgeship on the Central District of California bench Tuesday.

The Senate floor vote was 51-46. All the Democratic and independent senators voted for her. She got no Republican votes. Three Republican senators were absent.
