13 tire makers accused of using chemical that kills salmon
Tire companies began using 6PPD in the 1950s to prevent cracking, and the rubber preservative is now found in unsafe concentrations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle watersheds, read the complaint filed Wednesday.





Thirteen major U.S. tire manufacturers were hit with a lawsuit accusing them of violating federal environmental protections by using a toxic chemical that kills salmon when it washes into rivers.
The lawsuit came soon after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency agreed to investigate the effects of the chemical compound at the request of three Indigenous tribes.
