Pro bono work helps Vietnam veteran gain honorable discharge; legal nonprofit fights for better regulations

"The vast majority of these veterans were separated from the military through an administrative process which doesn't afford them the same due process rights as a court-martial proceeding." said Maureen E. Siedor, director of legal services at Swords to Plowshares.

Many veterans who received less than honorable discharges from service have endured traumatic events or faced injustices during their time in the military. These experiences, experts say, can lead to behavioral issues throughout their lives that land them in the judicial system.
