Citibank denied credit to Armenian clients for years, lawsuit claims

Citibank responded to the lawsuit Friday: “Regrettably, in trying to thwart a well-documented Armenian fraud ring operating in certain parts of California, a few employees took impermissible actions.”

A putative class action filed Friday accuses Citibank of implementing a systemwide practice that has trained its employees to deny and cancel credit cards to Armenian clients for years, on the grounds they might be more likely to commit fraud.
