Google accused of profiting off of Play Store gift card scams

According to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, Google Play Store gift cards were the second most popular choice for scammers in 2021.

A proposed federal class action against Google LLC accused the tech giant of pocketing millions of dollars from victims of Google Play Store gift card scams and often depositing the funds into app developer accounts.
