Suit seeks to replace San Mateo County Bar indigent counsel

The lawsuit argues that a proper public defender’s office should be created and taxpayers’ dollars should not be used to compensate attorneys in private practice.

The San Mateo County Bar Association was accused of “operating as a private criminal defense law firm” by offering legal services to indigent criminal defendants through an agreement with county in lieu of a traditional public defender’s office.
