Trial dates set in clergy abuse cases

The proceedings cover lawsuits filed against the Catholic Church in California since the 2019 approval of AB 218, which extended the statute of limitations for childhood sexual abuse claims.

Trial dates have been set for five bellwether cases in coordinated proceedings of childhood sexual assault cases against Southern California clergy members.

The trials are set to be held August through November, with the court asking counsel to select additional cases to serve as a second round of bellwether trials.
