Family of pedestrian killed by speeding CHP officer wins $40M

The motorcycle officer had recently been diagnosed with a serious eye condition.

The family of a 24-year-old pedestrian killed instantly when he was hit by a speeding CHP motorcycle officer won a $40 million wrongful death award.

Eric Dubin, one of the attorneys representing the family of Cezannie Mount, said California Highway Patrol Officer Alfredo Gutierrez was diagnosed with central serous chorioretinopathy, a serious eye condition, days before the 2019 accident.
