9th Circuit panel takes skeptical view of California law to protect children online

The panel questioned whether the law's provision requiring companies to complete a Data Protection Impact Assessment for each service they provide is constitutional.

A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel on Wednesday took a skeptical view of a California law that requires special protections for underage internet users, especially a provision requiring technology companies to do an assessment of the risks to children posed by material on their sites, as a likely violation of the First Amendment.
