The City of LA unlawfully harassed street vendors despite previous precedent

In a recent case, street vendors in Los Angeles successfully challenged the city’s onerous regulations, marking their second victory in this area.

This is the second victory for street vendors over onerous Los Angeles city regulations. The first victory was 39 years ago in Chalmers v. City of Los Angeles, 762 F.2d 753 (9th Cir. 1985) wherein the City was found to have violated street vendor Julie Chalmers’ civil rights and attorney fees were awarded to her counsel. However, the City forgot this precedent and continued to unlawfully harass street vendors.
