California effort to crack down on transnational repression opposed by Hindu foundation

A new bill is mobilizing some of the same groups that opposed a vetoed state law banning caste discrimination.

A coalition of Hindu groups has been waging parallel legal and legislative battles in California.

A bill to add caste discrimination to state civil rights law advanced to Gov. Gavin Newsom's desk last year. But strong opposition from elements of California's South Asian community may have helped convince him to veto SB 403.
