UC regents get time to seek stay of order to protect Jewish students

U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarsi declined to mandate any specific policies and procedures or tell UCLA administrators what to do if encampments resume that block Jewish students from libraries and other parts of campus.

Officials at UCLA failed to protect Jewish students by allowing them to be barred from parts of campus during a pro-Palestinian encampment last spring, a federal judge in Los Angeles has ruled in a preliminary injunction that was scheduled to go into effect Thursday.

He also denied a stay sought by the Regents of the University of California and other UC defendants asking that the Tuesday afternoon order be postponed and gave the regents a brief time to seek a stay from the 9th U....
