Newsom to sign bill to give AG more power to require low-price housing

Gov. Gavin Newsom said he will sign SB 1037, which would subject cities, counties or local agencies to fines up to $50,000 per month for not meeting state housing plans.

Attorney General Rob Bonta on Wednesday announced a deal to end a dispute with the City of Elk Grove over its efforts to block a low-income housing development near its historic district. At the same time, Gov. Gavin Newsom said he would sign a bill that he said would make it easier for Bonta to enforce the state's housing development rules.
