Insurer's failure to translate key document was discrimination, lawsuit claims

The parents of a woman who was killed in a car accident caused by a drunken driving elementary school principal say Geico's actions were in breach of the Unruh Civil Rights Act.

Geico discriminated against the parents of a women killed by a drunk driver by failing to reply to a demand letter in Spanish, the lawyer claimed in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County.

Salvador Rodriguez Ordaz and Braulia Ordaz said in the lawsuit they presented the demand letter to Geico in Spanish following the death of their daughter in 2018. They claim that the company's claims adjuster, Lacey Yelverton, failed to translate that letter, and responded to them in English. ...
