$2.8B NCAA settlement not enough, some athletes say

Even if the lead plaintiffs' counsel amended their complaint to appoint a class representative, the settlement framework still does not grant adequate relief to athletes on a partial scholarship, Korein Tillery LLC partner Garrett R. Broshuis told Senior U.S. District Judge Claudia A. Wilken in Oakland. Representatives of women athletes also objected.

The federal judge in Oakland overseeing a groundbreaking $2.8 billion name, image and likeness settlement against the NCAA expressed doubts over a key part of the agreement which limits booster payments to college athletes. NCAA attorneys say the clause is essential to the deal.
