Jury rules Cognizant discriminated against non-Indians, company to appeal

The company, founded in 1994 in Chennai, India and headquartered in Teaneck, N.J., was accused of discriminating against non-Indian candidates applying for jobs in the U.S. and having corporate practices in place that predominantly hired Indian citizens.

A federal jury in Los Angeles quickly found that information technology and consulting company Cognizant discriminated against non-Indian job applicants due to "overwhelming evidence," an attorney for the winning parties said on Monday.

The company - founded in 1994 in Chennai, India and headquartered in Teaneck, N.J. - said it would appeal.
