$2.8B NCAA athletes' settlement gets preliminary OK

The settlement would resolve three antitrust lawsuits filed against the NCAA. It would be the largest antitrust payout for student athletes, which includes a $2.58 billion name, image and likeness fund that that would be paid to current and former athletes dating back to 2016 who were denied their share of such deals - which weren't allowed until 2021.

A federal judge in Oakland granted preliminary approval of a revised version of a landmark $2.8 billion name, image and likeness settlement between college athletes and the NCAA that would allow schools, for the first time, to pay their players.

If the deal is finalized, eligible college athletes would receive up to 22% of the Power Five schools' average athletic revenue each year, estimated by the plaintiffs' counsel at Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP and Winston & Str...
