Google gets reprieve for now from opening Play Store to all app developers

The order, which covers a three-year injunction starting Nov. 1, may not last long depending on what the appellate court does with Google's motion to stay pending appeal.

A San Francisco federal judge on Friday granted a temporary stay of an injunction requiring Google to open its Play Store to all app developers, including plaintiff Epic Games Inc.

The reprieve, which covers a three-year injunction forcing Alphabet Inc's subsidiary to open its Play Store to all app developers starting Nov. 1, may not last long depending on what the appellate court does with the Mountain View company's motion for a stay, which it filed Wednesday.
