Sonoma judge censured for passionate school spirit

Sonoma County Judge James G. Bertoli was a leader of a movement against changing the name of his high school, rather than just someone who made a few ill-advised comments online, the Commission on Judicial Performance said.

A Sonoma County judge has been admonished for an excess of school spirit.

The Commission on Judicial Performance announced the action against Judge James G. Bertoli on Wednesday. The commission said Bertoli improperly used his judicial office to oppose changing the name of the high school he attended -- and where he served as the football announcer.
