Exxon says Bonta's case against its plastic recycling is pro-landfill

Attorney General Rob Bonta's complaint claimed Exxon polluted, caused a public nuisance and engaged in false advertising "through its deceptive public messaging regarding plastic recycling." The company says his stance means more landfills.

Exxon Mobil Corp. accused California Attorney General Rob Bonta of hypocrisy regarding plastic waste but has, thus far, not made that accusation in court. Meanwhile, Bonta on Thursday denied news reports that the state had dropped its case that accused the oil company of misleading consumers about plastic recycling.

"That is not at all accurate," said an unsigned email from Bonta's office. "The lawsuit is ongoing."
