AG sues city in LA County over homeless shelter ban
The state's lawsuit comes after Norwalk adopted an urgency ordinance imposing a moratorium on the approval of shelters and other supportive housing, as well as car washes, laundromats, payday lenders and liquor stores.
The state of California sued Norwalk on Monday, seeking to invalidate the city's moratorium on new homeless shelters, which the lawsuit calls a violation of state housing laws. It is the latest in a series of disputes between Sacramento and various cities over homeless and affordable housing.
The action in Los Angeles County Superior Court follows warnings from state officials urging Norwalk to reverse course.
