Navy contractor 'Fat Leonard' sentenced to 15 years for $35M bribery scheme

Assistant U.S. Attorney Fred Sheppard characterized the scale of Navy corruption in this case as historically unprecedented.

A federal judge sentenced Leonard Glenn Francis to 15 years in prison Tuesday for orchestrating what prosecutors called the largest corruption scandal in U.S. Navy history.

Francis, 60, pleaded guilty to defrauding the U.S. government of $35 million through a complex bribery scheme targeting the Navy's Seventh Fleet.
